Rise and Resist welcomes those new to activism and seasoned activists with many opportunities to get involved—come to meetings, join one or more groups, propose events or actions, and if you have specific skills to share like social media, writing, organizing, design, finance, legal and more, we appreciate that support as well!
MEETINGS
We meet every Tuesday night in our General Group from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on ZOOM. Click here for the meeting zoom link.
Once a month, we meet at the LGBTQ Center at 208 West 13th Street in Manhattan. For any changes to the schedule (e.g. cancellation due to inclement weather, venue change), visit the RAR Facebook page: Facebook.com/RiseandResistNYC.

We have a wide range of groups you can participate in.
In Action Groups we plan and produce street actions and other activities that people can take on a particular issue. Action Groups bring their direct-action plans—including pickets, marches, street theater, rallies, and civil disobedience—to Tuesday night meetings for discussion and approval.
Administrative Groups handle internal matters for Rise and Resist operations (meeting facilitation, media, etc.) and meet regularly, providing the organization with updates at general Tuesday night meetings.

ACTION GROUPS
Climate Action
The Rise and Resist Climate Action Group organizes and participates in direct action to raise awareness about the climate crisis and to demand change. We also work to support aggressive legislation at the city, state, and national levels to deal with the climate emergency. Solidarity among all age groups and across diverse communities is crucial in this fight, so we work in coalition with many other groups. Click here for more info.
Close Rikers
Rikers Vigil: a once-a-month vigil, occurring on the first Monday of each month at 5pm, is currently held in the Times Square subway station on the concourse between the #1,2,3 and the Grand Central Shuttle.
Communications and Media
Manages press outreach, social media promotion, newsletters, and website presence. Produces content like videos and graphics. Click here for more info.
Elections
The Elections Group works to make NY state politics and policy truly progressive. Current focus: No Adams, No Cuomo for Mayor. We are coordinating with other groups to target actions that pressure Democratic leadership to Stop the Coup. Click here for more info.
Elevator Action Group / Accessibility
This group works to make NYC’s transportation system accessible for all, coordinating with a coalition of disability rights organizations. Click here for more info.
Healthcare
For at least the next two years (2025-6), the Healthcare Group will be working to oppose the radical attacks by the Trump administration and their Congressional allies on federal healthcare programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act designed to pay for large tax cuts for big corporations and the ultra-wealthy. Immigration
The purpose of the group is to identify and organize actions that can defend immigrants - over and above our long-standing Immigration Vigil that takes place every two weeks on Thursdays at 5pm. Currently, we are making and distributing Know-Your-Rights business-size
cards to immigrants to help them refuse to cooperate with Immigration Authorities.

Marshaling
Marshals help build community by keeping protesters as informed and as safe as possible. Marshals help run the demonstration, and provide a buffer between protesters and danger - e.g. counter protesters, traffic, and police.
