Immigration Group
The Rise and Resist Immigration Group believes that no human being is illegal.
We are dedicated to taking direct action on current U.S. immigration policies and issues, including (but not limited to!) the suspension of DACA, ongoing and increased ICE raids, arrests and detentions, the various attempts at barring Muslims and people from specific countries from entering this country, the expiration of TPS for individual countries, and building a barrier wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
We educate ourselves about, and keep abreast of the ever-changing laws, policies and problems surrounding these issues.
We connect Rise and Resist members to the work of other non-profit and activist groups operating in these areas. We also demonstrate or join actions in coalition with other groups either individually or as part of a Rise and Resist contingent.
In lieu of weekly meetings, the Immigration Group is currently working with the Rise and Resist Actions group, which meets Wednesdays 6-8, and in coalition with other immigration groups in NYC. We also share information, research, and planning via email and in-person. To get involved, please come to a Rise and Resist general meeting on Tuesdays at 7 pm or the Rise and Resist Action group which meets on Wednesdays at 6 pm.
