How to Talk to the Press - Media Training for Activists

Working with the media is one important way to increase attention on issues that we care about, and help to influence the public debate in favor of our positions. This training will help you become more skilled at addressing the press - allowing you to have more control over messaging and coverage.

This training is part of Progressive Action Nights. More info here:

The training session will be led by Marlaine Selip, an experienced television producer.

Marlaine is a 6 time EMMY award winning Executive producer who has worked in talk, news and information TV and for Phil Donahue, Joan Rivers, Jane Pauley, Naomi Judd, Montel Williams, Quincy Jones and David Salzman. She’s consulted for The Weather Channel, worked on a special project for GMA and created a Emmy awarding winning talk show that replaced Oprah Winfrey in Chicago. In addition, she produced political commercials for the first openly gay candidate to run for the US Senate, Ed Flanagan. She has developed new talent and has done media coaching for Amazon, Broadway and on every show for which she’s worked.

The Thoughtworks space is on the 15th floor of 99 Madison, and is wheelchair accessible by elevator. For any other questions about accessibility, please email
