Town Hall Meeting: Reclaim Pride

  • The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center 208 West 13th Street New York, NY, 10011 United States (map)

Join us Friday, May 4 at 7pm at the LGBT Center for a Town Hall moderated by Ann Northrop and Jamila Hammami!

***PLEASE NOTE: This space WILL CENTER black, brown and indigenous LGBTQAI+ voices and visions.***

We will be discussing the ongoing and historic problems of the hyper commercialization and corporate coopting of NYC Pride, as well as the over policing of the Pride March and police as participants in the March, and Heritage of Pride (the organizers of the NYC Pride March since 1984)’s open and disgraceful collaboration with the arrest of peaceful protesters during last year’s March.

We will also discuss new and unacceptable changes to the March since last year such as limiting all contingents to 200 people, requiring that marchers wear HOP-issued wrist bands, and drastically changing the Pride March route.

Finally we will present and talk about the RPC Demands delivered this week to Mayor de Blasio, Police Commissioner O’Neill, and Chris Frederick, the head of Heritage of Pride, the organizer of the NYC Pride March since 1984. Links to the RPC Demands to HOP and the NYPD are below. Let’s take back NYC Pride!
